Robyn Hoerr, Groundwater Specialist with Minnesota Rural Water Association, was at the May 9 Utilities Commission meeting to present Water Superintendent Eric Volk, with a certificate of recognition signed by Governor Mark Dayton. The certificate of recognition recognized ERMU and the water department for their exemplary commitment to protecting the source of the community's drinking water.
In a letter from the Department of Health, they acknowledged that by sealing two flowing wells, instituting a rebate program for customers who choose to install water efficient fixtures, and monitoring and discouraging excessive water use, Elk River Municipal Utilities has engaged in many ways to manage and eliminate the threats to the drinking water supply. They also stated that "Elk River Municipal Utilities has become a leader and fine example for other public water systems in the state as the seek to safeguard their sources of drinking water."
Congratulations to ERMU and the Water Department for all their efforts they have made on behalf of drinking water protection.
