Conservation Programs
Elk River Municipal Utilities offers a variety of conservation programs all designed to help our environment by conserving natural resources.
Our energy conservation programs are designed to help both residential and commercial customers cut use and save money by using electricity wisely. Many offer incentives to encourage participation. All programs focus on one or more of the following philosophies:
• substitute new energy efficient technology for old energy guzzling technology,
• substitute alternative energy sources for traditional sources when cost effective,
• reduce use of existing technology through proper maintenance and/or,
• alter energy use patterns by shutting it off or shifting use to off-peak times of the day.
Our water conservation programs are designed to inform customers about ways to reduce use of our most valuable natural resource – potable water. There is also emphasis on keeping our drinking water safe. Elk River Municipal Utilities monitors the municipal water supply and publishes an “Annual Drinking Water Quality Report”. We use our “Conservation and Emergency Water Management Plan” and “A Wellhead Protection Plan” to assure the quality and quantity of our municipal water supply . We also publish “Tips On Keeping Your Drinking Water Safe” for those with private wells.
