6.Wait Till Eight to water your lawn. It takes electricity to pump water whether you have your own well or get it from Elk River Municipal Utilities. Curtailing use until after 8 PM saves. And don’t forget, if you get your water from Elk River Municipal Utilities, please observe our sprinkling ban. Even numbered addresses may sprinkle on even numbered days between 6 PM
and 10 AM, while odd numbered addresses may sprinkle on odd numbered days between 6 PM
and 10 AM.

Elk River Enjoying Dramatic Growth
Elk River continues to grow at a rate unprecedented in our history. With this growth comes increased demand for electricity by our families, businesses, and industries. Elk River Municipal Utilities continues to expand its electric system to meet this ever increasing demand.
Unfortunately, this rapid growth places high
demands on out utility meaning more power
plants, powerlines and fuel needed to gen-
erate electricity. Ultimately, this means
higher costs and a greater impact on the en-
vironment.
Electrical demands go up dramatically on
hot summer days when everyone turns on
their air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
Without your help, we could reach a point
in time where we cannot keep up with peak
summer demand.
You Can Help BIG Time,
If You Wait Till Eight!
Wait Till Eight is a voluntary program everyone can participate in. It simply means waiting to use your major electrical appliances until times of the day when use by everyone is lower. This saves money!
Business and industry use large volumes of electricity during the workday. If we can hold off our usage at home until after 8 PM, or before 10 AM we can utilize existing electric facilities much more efficiently. Elk River Municipal Utilities has coined this program “Wait Till Eight”. It can save millions of dollars when everyone participates. Saving millions means lower rates!
Here Are Some Ways
On those hot summer days, when the temperature reaches 90 degrees Farenheight and/or the dewpoint reaches 70%, it is time to go into action!
1.Please turn your air conditioner thermostat up 5 degrees at 5 PM. That’s easy to remember, “Dial up 5 at 5”. That way, your air conditioner runs a little less but still keeps you cool. This saves! Also, consider our Cycled AC Program and save even more!
2. Wait Till Eight to turn on your dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers contribute significantly to summer peak demands, so curtailing use between 5 PM and 8 PM can save!
3. Wait Till Eight to wash and dry your clothes. This saves two ways, both on the energy to run your washer and the energy to heat your water.
4. Wait Till Eight to wash dishes. In fact, if you have a dishwasher, set it to wash after you go to bed. This saves too!
5.Wait Till Eight to cook that evening
meal. Or better, yet, on those hot summer days, use your outdoor grill. This saves on air conditioning too!
