Wind Power From Elk River Municipal Utilities
We all have an obligation to use our energy resources more wisely than we have in the past! This Program is one of several we are offering and still continue to bring you competitive rates. Purchasing WIND POWER makes good sense from a utility and environmental perspective because it conserves our natural resources and reduces the environmental impact associated with burning fossil fuels to generate electricity. It makes good sense from your perspective because it’s affordable and you can do your part to help improve the environment now.

How Do I Sign Up?
Just complete the information on the attached WIND POWER Purchase Agreement and forward it to us at 13069 Orono Parkway. We will purchase an equivalent amount from Great River Energy. You will be billed only after our contract with them becomes effective. Allow at least 60 days! This is a one year commitment and will continue unless you cancel.
It Takes A Wind Farm To Do It!
Elk River Municipal Utilities and Great River Energy have made a big commitment to use wind energy. We support this endeavor by purchasing electricity from this environmentally friendly source at a slight premium over what we pay for electricity generated by conventional power plants. This is a real opportunity to make a difference in the environment, so we are extending the same offer to you. You can purchase WIND POWER in blocks of 100 kilowatt-hours from us for an additional $1.00 per month. That doesn’t sound like much, but each block purchased means we are another step closer to constructing another wind generator on the wind farm. That farm, which has nine 660 kW wind generators, is located near Chandler, Minnesota. This is an area of the State where the wind is constant enough to make WIND POWER cost-effective. Help us add more wind generators by signing up for our WIND POWER program today.
Why Does It Cost More?
The wind is free, but the equipment used to capture it and produce electricity is not. Neither is the land it sits on! While the cost of generating electricity from the wind has come down considerably over the last twenty years, it is still a big investment. Someday WIND POWER will be a less expensive way to satisfy our electrical appetite, but we need to support the wind industry today to get there tomorrow! Your purchase today means another project is that much closer to reality!
