The city arranges for the collection of residential refuse and recycling.  Under this program, the City is divided into two collection districts.  Each district is served by a licensed solid waste company under contract with the City.

Items Available for Pick-up – Compost material, wood chips and firewood.
Compost GuidelinesResidential use only – absolutely no commercial dumping or pick up.  No trash – be sure to bring containers and bags home with you.  Use appropriate bins clearly marked for your use.

OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS

New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If your scheduled day is on or after an official holiday, your service will be delayed one day. A holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday will not affect the service schedule.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

Residents may drop off household hazardous waste free of charge at the Tri-County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 601 N. 20th Ave, St. Cloud, MN.  Items accepted are paints, solvents, pesticides and cleaning chemicals.  For more information call 1-800-450-6140.

REFUSE & RECYCLING COLLECTION

Residents may choose one of three levels of service:

32 gallon bi-monthly $7.85/month
32 gallon weekly $9.87/month
60 gallon weekly $13.25/month
90 gallon weekly $18.34/month
2-90 gallon weekly $31.33/month

*Each additional 90 gallon is $12.99 per month
* Place your recycling bin and refuse container at the end of your driveway at least four feet apart.

REFUSE CONTAINER

The container should be out by 6:00 AM at the curb with the handle facing your home, and the lid must be closed.  The recycling container should be placed on the opposite side of your driveway.  Please return the containers to storage by dark.

EXTRA GARBAGE

Any extra garbage that will not fit in your container MUST be tagged with a sticker. Each sticker is good for one 30 gallon bag of garbage not to exceed 40 pounds in weight. Stickers are available for $2.00 each, and can be purchased at the Utilities office located at 13069 Orono Parkway.

UNACCEPTABLE WASTE

Tires, auto batteries, motor oil, oil-based paint, construction material, appliances, yard waste or human waste, or any hazardous waste are not  to be disposed of in your refuse container

YARD WASTE

Elk River operates a self-serve compost site as a free service to residents Location – 19000 Proctor Road (south of the Public Works Garage).   Items accepted for drop – off leaves, grass clippings and weeds.  Brush – no greater than 4” in diameter and firewood.

 

 

 

 

 



 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Organics Recycling

It's easy as easy as 1, 2, 3.
1. Collect your food scraps & food soiled paper products
2. Empty your food scraps & food soiled paper products into your organics cart
3. Set out your organics cart at the curb for weekly pick up
bags, they are available at Elk River Municipal Utilities, Westbound Liquor and Northbound Liquor.

As of September 1,  2010, the fee for the organics service is $4.00 a month. Any new organics
service would also include a onetime charge for the Organics container of $50.00.

If you choose to use compostable bags, they are available at Elk River Municipal Utilities,
Westbound Liquor and Northbound Liquor.

ITEMS ACCEPTED
Food scraps including bones, egg shells, dairy products, coffee grounds w/ filter.

Food soiled paper products:  paper towels & napkins, paper plates & paper cups, milk & juice
cartons, pizza boxes, egg cartons, tea bags, boxes from frozen foods and waxed paper.

Full vacuum cleaner bags, dryer lint, tissues & cotton balls, floral trimmings and house plants.

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED
Styrofoam products, plastic, glass, metal, plastic bags, foiled lined containers (juice boxes),
diapers, wipes, kitty litter and pet droppings.

Grass clippings, leaves and brush.
