Organized Refuse and Recycling Collection

Items Available for Pick-up – Compost material, wood chips and firewood.
Compost Guidelines – Residential use only – absolutely no commercial dumping or pick up. No trash – be sure to bring containers and bags home with you. Use appropriate bins clearly marked for your use.
OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS
New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If your scheduled day is on or after an official holiday, your service will be delayed one day. A holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday will not affect the service schedule.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
Residents may drop off household hazardous waste free of charge at the Tri-County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 601 N. 20th Ave, St. Cloud, MN. Items accepted are paints, solvents, pesticides and cleaning chemicals. For more information call 1-800-450-6140.

REFUSE & RECYCLING COLLECTION
The city arranges for the collection of residential refuse and recycling. Under this program, the City is divided into two collection districts. Each district is served by a licensed solid waste company under contract with the City.
Residents may choose one of three levels of service:

| 32 gallon weekly | $13.01/month |
| 60 gallon weekly | $14.54/month |
| 90 gallon weekly | $16.83/month |
| 2-90 gallon weekly | $27.80/month |
*Each additional 90 gallon is $10.97 per month
* Place your recycling bin and refuse container at the end of your driveway at least four feet apart.
REFUSE CONTAINER
The container should be out by 6:00 AM at the curb with the handle facing your home, and the lid must be closed. The green recycling bin should be placed on the opposite side of your driveway. Please return the containers to storage by dark.
RECYCLING BINS
Replacement bins are available by calling Elk River Utilities at 763-441-2020. Additional recycle bins are available at the Elk River Municipal Utilities office for $5.33 per container.
EXTRA GARBAGE
Any extra garbage that will not fit in your container MUST be tagged with a sticker. Each sticker is good for one 30 gallon bag of garbage not to exceed 40 pounds in weight. Stickers are available for $2.00 each, and can be purchased at the Utilities office located at 13069 Orono Parkway.
UNACCEPTABLE WASTE
Tires, auto batteries, motor oil, oil-based paint, construction material, appliances, yard waste or human waste, or any hazardous waste are not to be disposed of in your refuse container
ITEMS TO RECYCLE
Magazines, Catalogs, Phone Books, Newspaper & Supplements - Place in paper bags or bundle and tie for recycling.
Everything that comes in the Sunday paper as well as junk mail can be recycled.
Dry Corrugated Cardboard – Cereal, cracker, tissue, and shoe boxes. Flatten and bundle with twine, rope, or tape; no larger than 3’ X 3’ square and 6” thick. Place alongside, under or on top of recycling bin.
Cans, Glass bottles and Plastic bottles - Rinse containers, remove caps, lids, rings, and pumps and place in same bag.
ITEMS NOT RECYCLABLE
Pizza boxes, waxy beverage containers, coffee filters, paper towels, napkins, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, plastic bags and plastic containers (except bottles, which are recyclable). Foam materials: cups, plates and packing material. Household glass, light bulbs, medicine containers, razors, needles. No ceramics, steel or any chemically tainted item: aerosol cans, paint cans, motor oil or gas containers.
YARD WASTE
Elk River operates a self-serve compost site as a free service to residents Location – 19000 Proctor Road (south of the Public Works Garage). Items accepted for drop – off leaves, grass clippings and weeds. Brush – no greater than 4” in diameter and firewood.
