Alternative Lighting Options

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Lighting

What are the benefits of Energy Star® Qualified LED Lights?

  • A 75 Watt LED equivalent dimmable spot light only costs you $141 over its life-time; an incandescent will cost you $519
  • LEDs produce very little heat and are usually cool to the touch
  • Great for hard to reach vaulted ceilings or outdoor fixtures
  • Easy disposal! There is no mercury; the lamp can be simply disposed of in your garbage
  • LEDS operate great in cold conditions (-30° F)
  • Uses at least 75% less energy than an incandescent
  • Reduces cooling costs in warm months
  • LEDs are instantly at full output of light (no warm up time)

Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL)

What are the benefits of Energy Star® Qualified CFL Lights?

  • A CFL uses only 25% of the energy that a traditional incandescent bulb uses
  • CFLs produce very little heat and will lower your air conditioning costs in the summer
  • CFLs can last 7 to 10 times longer than an incandescent
  • All fluorescent lamps contain small amounts of mercury so they must be disposed of properly. CFLs are on the low side at 1.0 to 4.0 milligrams of mercury. Spent CFLs can be recycled at either Menards or Home Depot for FREE!
